🐾 American Maltese Association 2019 Specialty ðŸ¾

ATTENTION ALL MALTESE LOVERS!
There's a very special event coming up and we wanted to share it with you. From May 21st through May 24th,the American Maltese Association Specialty will take place in Phoenix, AZ. It's a wonderful, fun-filled, annual, national gathering that includes grooming seminars, obedience and rally competitions and sweepstakes, where you'll see some of this county's most beautiful Maltese, compete. There's also a Rescue Parade, a White Excitement dinner, a luncheon and a banquet.

AMAR is so excited to be there and we'll have silent auction and live auction items to benefit our rescue. We could use additional items for these auctions. We'd love new or gently used dog items, as well as gift cards or certificates for products or services. Please get in touch with Leanne Sandmeyer at ls62amar@gmail.com if you have anything you can donate.

The Maltese Specialty has it's own Facebook  page where you can find out about the schedule, registration and hotel discounts:

❤️ Featured Foster ~ Myley  â¤ï¸

Meet Myley!!!    Myley  is a female Maltipoo who is 10 years young. She’s the perfect size at 7 lbs and has soft curly white hair that will need to be professional groomed every few months to keep it that way.  She loves a gentle touch and is a darling little girl who loves to be by your side. At home she knows how to settle down and snuggle with the best of them, and will spend her days as your loyal shadow and companion.

Myley loves her walks, car rides and chasing her toys. At night she would love to be your bed buddy and will snuggle up beside you, or she can sleep in her crate. She has a loyal, affectionate nature and loves to have her belly rubbed. She will thrive in a home where she is fussed over and pampered.

Myley is well behaved inside the home and likes to be included in everyday activities. She is good with other well behaved small dogs but does not do well with adolescent or big dogs. Myley prefers to be in an adult only household (no small children). She is housebroken and behaves well when left alone. She is spayed, microchipped and has all of her shots. Myley is located in Los Angeles, Calif area.

If you are interested in adopting Myley and are in driving distance of the Los Angeles area please go here to read our adoption process and fill out an adoption questionnaire.

gratitude, then animals are better off than a lot of humans.”

This is written by Pokie's Foster Mom Peggy:

It has taken me some time to be able to write this. But I want to tell everyone about one of the sweetest Maltese I have fostered for AMAR. His name is Pokie. He was surrendered to AMAR by a family that supposedly found him near a road. Pokie was paralyzed and unable to walk. He had no control over his bowels or urine. I took him to an orthopedic doctor to see what we could do to help him. After an examination and several Xrays I was told he evidently had had a serious injury that was never addressed causing his spine to fuse together. Even with surgery there was no guarantee he would ever walk again or get any better physically. He appeared to be a happy little guy otherwise with his disabilities not holding him back. He would drag his little body across the floor to keep an eye on where I was. He wore diapers and baby onesies which would need changing and a bath a couple times a day. He had a little wheelchair I would put him in for a few hours at a time and he would take off. Nothing held him back unless he got his legs or wheelchair caught behind a chair leg or other obstacle. He loved for me to take him places. He would look around at everything taking it all in. He was so loving. A couple weeks ago when I got up and reached for Pokie to wake him to take him outside to potty with the rest, I found Pokie had passed in his sleep during the night. The Vet said he could have had an unknown bacterial infection in his intestines or more likely his bowel but his passing will remain a mystery. Nevertheless, he won over my heart leaving a large hole. If anyone is or has been considering sending a donation to AMAR, I would appreciate it if you would donate it in his memory. Love you Pokie.

We absolutely love hearing how our former
Foster FurBaies are doing!!

This is our Stormy, the apple of her daddy's eye.  We adopted her 5 years ago.  She is actually a failed foster, LOL.   All my former fosters have been wonderful but there was something about little Stormy, a je ne sais quoi.  Found roaming the streets of downtown LA, she was just a puppy, a puppy with seizures and, therefore, classified as "special needs".  Within minutes she had her daddy wrapped around her paw.  But we persisted in our foster parent duties, training, getting her seizures under control, getting her vetted.  We had her bio and pictures all ready for the AMAR website and on the day we were to submit, her daddy with tears in his eyes, holding her tightly, said he just couldn't do it.  I blame him for having 3 dogs, LOL.  Stormy brightens our every day, at 4 pounds she has a giant personality.  After switching her to the pup equivalent of a ketogenic diet, we tapered off her epileptic medication and she hasn't had a seizure in years.  AMAR is a fabulous rescue, they treat their fosters, volunteers, and rescued pups very well.  They are always at the top of my charitable donation list and I recommend they be on yours.  Please consider fostering, it is so rewarding.  And pay special heed to the seniors and "special needs" pups, they are SO worth it.
 ðŸ¾ AMAR At Westminster ðŸ¾

A huge thanks to American Maltese Association, which was kind enough to allow AMAR to join them at their table at the day before Westminster began in NYC.   Several people who visited our table told us how much they appreciated that and hadn’t seen it for other breeds, so we at AMAR are very grateful. For AMA show dogs, Kennon Hudson showed off Spring in full coat and Cindy Fern-King showed off Jewel in a short cut and a puppy, Vada. Lots of oohs and aahs as people approached. And for rescue, Stephanie Schwarz Morrison, and her husband and son introduced Pippa, our calendar cover girl, to adoring fans. ❤️ Gayle E. Lash-Pederson, Clif De Raita and Susan Leavitt were manning the table too, educating throngs about both Maltese and rescue. #1 comment/question: “I never knew they were so small!!”   We met  some awesome folks and families. So proud of our breed!!

🐾   Ways You Can Help Ã°ÂŸÂÂ¾

FOSTER HOMES NEEDED!!
We are in dire need of Foster Homes throughout the United States. Daily we receive requests to take in dogs from shelters or owners needing to surrender them. The only way we can accept these dogs is if we have a place to put them. We hate turning them down but sometimes we have no choice and they may end up in a shelter or abandoned on the street.

If you would like to help us by Fostering please read our Foster Questions and Answers then fill out the Foster Applicaton at the top of that page.
